Thanks in part to all of you who have spoken up, the park has continued to allow limited access; however the “Winter Use Plan” for Yellowstone National Park is under review once again, and the fight is far from over. Six alternatives have been proposed including a “no action” alternative which would eliminate all snowmobiles in the park after the 2010/2011 winter season. Environmentalist groups and government officials are joining forces and they are no longer satisfied with the laws and restrictions currently in place which limit the usage of national forest lands. The new petition is requesting that on-snow vehicles (OSV), previously exempt from the 1972 ruling, be re-classified as “motor vehicles” and fall under the same jurisdiction as all other off-road vehicles. These groups have already petitioned and won before, and have eliminated much of the motorized travel within national forest land.
