Dan Adams' Pink Ribbon Ride
Apr 17, 2008

What's up everyone? Dan here, just checking in. Well, a lot has gone on since I last checked in. The snowfall in the Alpine, WY has been nothing short of ridiculous. I picked a great year to run a turbo!

After another amazing turnout at this year's Jackson Hole Hillclimb and freestyle show, I was asked to be a part of a charity ride put on by the Pink Ribbon Riders, a group that raises money for breast cancer. The ride took place at Togwotee Mountain Lodge just north of Jackson. Among the other "celebs" were fellow Slednecks rider Paul Thacker, and none other than "Big Deal", Kirk Zack of HMK. When my wife and I arrived we were blown away with hospitality and people were everywhere showing off their Pink Ribbon Riders logos.

After we settled in to our cabin we wasted no time getting suited up for a mid afternoon burn on the buggies [sled ride]. The conditions were great and my wife Irena was starting to link some pretty sick powder turns (image to left), you go girl!

When we arrived back at the lodge we hooked up with Jody McKay and her husband Dan, two of the main people behind the Pink Ribbon Riders. These are two of the most truly amazing people I know and their involvement in the breast cancer awareness program is beyond me. They, along with a host of other volunteers have dedicated their lives to helping people with breast cancer by raising money and spreading the need for regular exams in both men and women throughout the world.

The charity ride raised over $7000, and that’s not counting the Jackson Hole Snow Devil's contributions! It was obvious to me that this was something that I would be involved with from here on out. The night time activities included a cowboy poet and a vintage snowsuit contest. Kirk Zack took top honors. There was also a raffle that had tons of awesome prizes from the event sponsors. The Slednecks team autographed Bandit jacket that you guys donated was on display and they’re going to be auctioning it in the near future. I bet that will be a hot item. It really was awesome to be a part of this event, having a blast for a great cause. It was great to catch up with friends as well as meet new ones that were all there showing their support.

All of us have someone in our family that has gone through something that requires attention. For instance, my dad suffered from a heart attack one week prior to the hill climb. He was flown to Eastern Idaho Medical Center from the E.R. here in Jackson. One side of his heart was completely shut down and it's a miracle he's still with us. It's going to be a long road to recovery for my father but he's doing well now. My point to all of this is that sometimes it takes something either amazing or devastating for us to realize how precious life is. Being part of an organization that strives to help others is truly gratifying. I am honored to call myself a Pink Ribbon Rider, and will continue to show my support by presenting this program to everyone I meet. Thanks to everyone at Togwotee Mountain Lodge, and special thanks to Jody McKay of the Pink Ribbon Riders. Paul and I will be back next year and will hopefully be bringing a crew of other athletes in support of the cause.

Time to go ride!
